Wifi – FAQ

Is internet included in my contract?

Yes, starting from the academic year 2026-2027, internet will be provided collectively. The internet charge is €25 per month and is included in the tenancy agreement.

Is internet access compulsory?

Yes. The internet charge applies to all tenants in the building.
This is a collective solution for the entire building. The service is therefore not optional and cannot be refused on an individual basis.

Why does everyone have to pay for this?

By providing internet access collectively, we can keep the price low for everyone. If each tenant were to take out a separate subscription with a telecoms provider, the monthly cost would usually be higher.
Through this collective solution, each tenant pays €25 per month.

Do I need to take out an internet subscription myself?

No. You do not need to apply for a new connection yourself.
Internet access is provided centrally for the building. You therefore do not need to contact a separate provider to have the internet installed.

Do I need to provide my own modem?

No. The internet connection is provided centrally within the building.
The standard connection is via Wi-Fi.

How does the installation work?

Fibre is laid right into the building. In addition, Wi-Fi antennas are installed in the corridors and, where necessary, in studios to ensure good coverage.
The installation has been technically assessed by the supplier.

Is there a paywall, voucher or restricted access?

No. There are no plans to introduce a system involving temporary vouchers or paywalls.
Internet access will be available to all tenants of the building.

What speed can I expect?

The system is designed for intensive use by students.
At peak times, when more than 90% of capacity is in use, the target download speed is approximately 100 Mbit/s.
At lower usage levels, this can rise to 600+ Mbit/s download speed.
The actual speed may depend on your device, your location within the building, the number of users and network load.

When will the internet be up and running?

The subcontractor has confirmed that the system will be operational before the start of the 2026–2027 academic year, and possibly earlier.
The exact date of commissioning will be announced at a later date.

When can I cancel my current internet subscription?

Please do not cancel your current internet subscription until we have officially confirmed that the building’s internet connection is active.
Please also check the notice period and terms and conditions with your current provider.

What should I do with the modem from my current provider?

If you are currently using a modem provided by your provider, you must return it to them yourself in accordance with their terms and conditions.

Can I use a wired internet connection?

The standard solution is Wi-Fi.
Do you have a device that only works via an RJ45 Ethernet port and cannot connect to Wi-Fi? If so, you will need to provide your own adapter that converts the Wi-Fi signal to Ethernet.

Can I opt out because I don’t use the internet?

No. The internet charge is part of the tenancy agreement and applies to all tenants in the building.
It is precisely because everyone participates that the price can be kept low.
